Resort:

The Disney Contemporary

The resort is located next to Magic Kingdom and is an 8 minute walk to the park. If you take the monorail to the park, you will make a full round trip that takes around 20 minutes. The ride from the park to the hotel was the first stop and took less than 3 minutes. We would typically walk to the park in the morning and ride the monorail back to the hotel at night (after being tired from walking the park all day).

The hotel had modest holiday decor, but the gingerbread house in the lobby was pretty amazing.

Disney's Contemporary - Resort View Room - 4747

The room is amazing! The room has been recently upgraded to include an Incredibles theme. The room very comfortable, with lots of seating, storage, and includes a beverage cooler. The bathroom is spacious and well appointed.

The balcony view was the star of the show. The balcony view of the resort offers prime viewing of the fireworks!

Magic Kingdom Park:

Disney World Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

It was so nice...we went twice :). The decorations were amazing and snow on Main Street put us in the holiday spirit! The lines for the rides were manageable, due to the limited number of tickets sold for the event. The festive treats were fun and delicious. The holiday parade and performances around the park were amazing! We absolutely loved this event!

Recommendation: Highly recommend it!

MICKEY'S VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS PAR

  • Lightning Lane Premier Pass (LLPP). We went during the Thanksgiving holiday and knew it would be pretty crowded. We had planned to only purchase the LLPP once for the Magic Kingdom part (at the highest price point due to demand during Thanksgiving week). However, once our window opened to purchase Lighting Lane, some of the Lightning Lanes were no longer available and/or only late times were available (already booked by those that had arrived earlier in the week). So, we purchased the Lightning Lane Premier Pass for each day we were at the park to ensure that we were able to ride all of the popular rides at least one time.

Overall, we found the Lightning Lane Premier Pass was worth the cost during peek park days. If we didn't have LLPP, we would likely have missed several rides (Tron, Slinky Dog, etc. was consistently 2+ hours every day, Slinky Dog. The only down side is that you can only use it once per ride, so the cost per ride is high and we still waited in standby subsequent rides.

Recommendation: Recommend (at least for peak travel dates)

  • Crystal Palace Character Breakfast

This was a great experience! We entered the park early for our breakfast seating. We checked in on the app and were seated right away. The service was quick with our drink order and provided instructions on the buffet breakfast. The food was the standard Disney breakfast buffet, but it was well stocked, organized and prepared. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our Mickey Waffles! We loved the magical holiday touches that were incorporated into the restaurant decor. The characters included Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger. The characters spent ample time at each table and interacted with all of the guests. Overall, this was our best character experience of our short visit to Magic Kingdom.

Recommendation: Recommend

CRYSTAL PALACE CHARACTER BREAKFAST

  • Chef Mickey Character Breakfast

The character interactions with the fab five (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto) were great. The food was the standard Disney breakfast buffet, but the preparation and service were subpar. (They were out of skim milk/plain toast. Our omelet orders took forever and were inedible.) It may have been due to the busy holiday crowds, but we were disappointed in the overall experience. We met the characters and stuck to the POG juice (Passion fruit, orange, and guava juice)...then ate breakfast in the park :). For $60pp, I would recommend looking at other options for character meet and greets.

Recommendation: Skip this one

  • Cinderella's Royal Table (Dinner)

We were able to score a reservation at the last minute while standing in line for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It was a late reservation at 10:30 that would put us leaving after park closing, which was ideal. We didn't miss much ride time and were able to take photos in the park after the rides closed (avoiding much of the crowds).

The dinner was delicious (probably our best meal of the week). The wine selection was limited, but we were just happy to have an adult beverage at the end of a long day. The princesses that evening included: Cinderella, Merida, Ariel, Jasmine, and Briar Rose. The service was great and the princesses were very engaged with each table. Just getting to see inside the castle was pretty amazing...and we enjoyed checking out all of the royal details in the architecture and decor. Although it is one of the more expensive options, we thought it was definitely worth it.

Recommendation: Recommend

Additional Notes/Recommendations:

Dad

  • Use the app to order food ahead of time for pick up to save time (and your sanity when the park is crowded)!

  • Download the Disney Play! app for games to pass the time in the standby lines. We loved the Disney themed Heads Up game.

Mom

  • Keep checking for those highly coveted table dining reservations while in the park for last minute cancellations/availability. We were able to snag dinner at the Cinderella's Castle while standing in line for ride!

Tween

  • MK - Tron, Seven Dwarfs Mine, Big Thunder Railroad ON REPEAT (with a quick stop a Space Mountain to use the LLPP)!

    • If you do have to wait a long standby line for Big Thunder Mountain, there is nice vendor cart (if line is long enough) that serves Mickey Bars while standing in the line!!

Until next time...
